How to write a LinkedIn About section

Say who you help and what you do

Your About section is the one place on LinkedIn where you speak in your own voice. Most people write too much or too little.

Step 1: Open with what you do

Start with one plain sentence about your work and who you do it for. The first lines show before the "see more" link, so make them count.

Step 2: Add two or three proof points

Years of experience, team size, a result with a real number, or a kind of problem you solve well.

Step 3: Say what you want next

Looking for a new role, open to projects, or happy to connect with people in your field. End with how to reach you.

Step 4: Write in first person

"I run warehouse teams" reads better than "Jordan is a manager." Keep paragraphs short.

Where it goes

On your profile, click the pencil icon next to About, paste your text, and click Save. LinkedIn changes its buttons now and then, so look for the pencil if a label has moved.
